North Central Baseball

Mission Statement

The mission of the North Central Baseball program is to provide a positive experience for all players and to allow them to enhance their physical, mental, and emotional skills needed to succeed on and off the baseball diamond.

Coaches Responsibilities:

North Central Baseball Coaches will be...

Coaching Philosophy:

1.      FUN- The umpire still yells, "play ball!"  We want all players to have fun when playing baseball.  Laugh at mistakes, respect opponents and enjoy the game for what it is - a game.

2.      PLAY - Regardless of level, we are still a developmental system.  Thus, we make sure players see the field in a meaningful way and provide quality playing time.

3.      COMPETITIVE - The players will learn how to play and compete hard.  In addition, players will learn their roles and why roles are important in baseball as well as in life.

4.      CLASS - NC players will be the most sportsmanlike and the classiest ballplayers on the field.  No one likes a sore loser or a pompous winner: "Proud in defeat, humble in victory."

5.      COMMITMENT - NC coaches will demonstrate and promote a commitment to the game and our players.  Likewise, the players must commit themselves heart, mind, and soul into becoming the best player he can be.

North Central Baseball

Parent Code of Ethics

It has been said many times that an athlete lives in a fish bowl.  Every action by an athlete is vulnerable to public scrutiny.  Our athletes are no different.  Because of this fact, I would like all of us to act in accordance with this Code of Ethics and model the behavior we want players to exemplify.  It is of primary importance that parents are aware of the proper handling of the wide variety of situations he/she and their son may encounter.

The coaching staff will represent you and the athletes in a responsible and professional manner.  Likewise, we expect that you will respect the game, players, coaches, umpires, and other spectators in a similar manner.

PARENT RESPONSIBILITY TO PLAYERS/ATHLETES

1.      In your relationship with your son, be aware of the tremendous influence you wield.  We expect that you will treat your sons with positive respect and provide support when necessary.

2.      Parents are welcome to be active, enthusiastic, and positive spectators.  Please leave the coaching to the coaching staff.

3.      Parents should treat NC team members or opposing athletes with respect at all times.  Root for the teams, not just your own child.

4.      Parents should never place the value of a win above instilling the highest desirable ideals and character traits in their sons.

5.      Unsportsmanlike conduct has no place in this game or program.  The coach along with the parents should set the example for winning without boasting and losing without bitterness.

6.      Coaches will notify parents when an injury occurs.  Parents are responsible to provide medical attention.  Players should learn how to play with soreness (within reason), not through injuries.

7.      Parents should understand and be cognizant of the eligibility rules for Spokane Public Schools.  The team will not be jeopardized by any circumvention of eligibility rules.  Academic eligibility rules will be closely monitored.

8.      Parents should not make demands on their players that will interfere with the player's opportunities for achieving academic success.

PARENT RESPONSIBILITY TO COACHES

1.      Parents should support the coaching of the North Central baseball program.  Please do not undermine the coaching in front of your athletes.

2.      Questions or concerns about the coaching should be voiced to the coaches in a respectful, well-timed manner.  A good "rule of thumb" is 24 hours. Give yourself and the coach a chance to collect thoughts.

3.      Please see the head coach of your son's team first.  IF you would like to speak to coach Harmon, please arrange a by calling him at 354-6233.

4.      Parents are encouraged to stay out of the dugout area prior to, during, and after the games.  THE DUGOUT IS AN AREA FOR THE COACHES AND PLAYERS ONLY.

5.      Playing time is not an issue for debate.  Items of discussion include safety concerns, areas of skill development for individual athletes, and what an individual parent can do to support the development of their child and the NC program.

6.      Respect the time and setting of coaches.  Please try to discuss issues regarding your son to a time after practice or previously arranged.  Interrupting a class, practice, game, or in another public or private setting is discouraged.

PARENT RESPONSIBILITY TO UMPIRES

1.      No competitive contest can be played satisfactorily without impartial, competent officials.  Regardless if you feel the umpiring is not impartial or competent, umpires should receive respect and support from parents.

2.      Criticism of umpires, either on or off the field, is considered unacceptable.

3.      Umpires are trained in the Rules of the Game.  Unless you passed the state association test on the Rules of Baseball, allow the men and women in blue to do their job.

4.      Parents shall conduct themselves so as to maintain the principles, integrity, and dignity of North Central.

5.      The primary responsibilities for parents are to maintain safety, enthusiastically cheer for their child and encourage success for ALL players.

PARENT RESPONSIBILITY TO RECRUITING

1.      It is not the responsibility of the NC coaching staff to get an athlete recruited to a higher level of play. However, the NC coaches will make every effort possible to speak on player's behalf and to communicate with area collegiate programs.

2.      Parents certainly have the right to talk to coaches, officials, or scouts representing higher levels of play. However, no "recruitment" should take place without the knowledge or consent of the NC coaching staff.

3.      Please understand that it is the duty of the coaches to provide instruction, supervision, and enforce rules during the season.  Heavy "recruitment" may interfere with our responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITY TO TRANSPORTATION

1.     Players will ride buses to and from practices and games.

2.      Parents will pick up students at North Central High School.

3.      Parents need to complete and sign the transportation authorization form published by Spokane School District 81. Should be provided at parent meeting.

4.      Any matters needing immediate pick up, such as emergencies, is acceptable as long as a parent transportation form has been signed and submitted to NC.

 5.     Coaches or players will not drive athletes home without consent from the parents and without the proper transportation form on file.

North Central Baseball Players Code of Conduct

It has been said many times that an athlete lives in a fish bowl.  His/her every action is constantly under public scrutiny.  As athletes you are in that exact situation.  Because of this fact, I would like you to act in accordance with this Code of Ethics and model the behavior we want you to exemplify.  It is of primary importance that the player is aware of the proper handling of the wide variety of situations he encounters.

You represent all that is good about North Central.  Our alumni, administration, faculty, and current student body trust that we will represent them in a responsible and professional manner.  We will respect the game, opposing players, fellow coaches, umpires, and spectators.
